Each year, this program features a prominent scholar to campus for a series of free, public events. The  2023–24 Hess Scholar-in-Residence is Paul Ortiz, a professor of history and director of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program at the University of Florida.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Step 1: File FAFSA and TAP

Filing the FAFSA application is your first step in determining your financial aid eligibility.

Once you file your FAFSA on studentaid.gov, you’ll receive a link to the New York State Tuition Assistance Program, or TAP, which offers grants to eligible New York State residents.

Allow up to seven days for us to receive your FAFSA application.

Step 2: Check CUNYfirst

You may need to submit documents to finalize your aid by logging into CUNYfirst. Please do this as soon as possible.

Step 3: Apply for Scholarships

Brooklyn College offers scholarships to help you pay for your education. There are specific scholarships available for incoming students.

Payment plans make it easier for you to pay tuition and fees that aren’t covered by financial aid.
