A full-time intensive English language learning program.
Develop your English language skills at the Brooklyn College American Language Academy. Gain proficiency and confidence in your oral and written English skills. This is a full-time, college-oriented program that also serves as a pathway to degree programs at Brooklyn College.
Our program includes Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels of English learning.
Summer 2014: July 14 - August 7
Fall 2014: September 15 classes begin, November 19 classes end (September 2 placement test)
Winter 2014/2015: December 15 classes begin, February 25 classes end (December 1 placement test)
Spring 2015: March 16 classes begin, May 21 classes end (March 3 placement test)
ESL Special for Summer 2014
Conversation and Speech Workshop July 14 - August 7, Monday - Thursday, 9am - 2pm -- In this four week course you will learn to speak with clarity and style that will help pave the way to your academic of business career. Develop correct speech patterns that will help you present yourself effectively. You will become more proficient in the sounds and rhythms of standard American English. Through guided conversation on timely topics, dialogues and regular practice with pronunciation exercises, you will improve your self-presentation. Program cost is $550.00.
ALA Application for Residents
Students can complete the ALA application to be considered for admission to the English language program. Please complete the PDF application below. Payment of $1,195 is due when you send your application.

Application for ALA for I-20 Students
Students who are accepted to the American Language Academy and require an F-1 visa must complete an I-20 application. An I -20 is needed for a full-time language student (180 hours per term) for an F-1 visa. An I-20 is also needed for current international students transferring from another educational institution within the United States. Payment of $1,270 is due when you send in your application ($1195 for first semester and $75 one-time non-refundable application fee).

Refunds are issued according to the following policy:
- 100% of total costs of tuition and fees for courses cancelled by the college.
- 100% of tuition costs in a written request is submitted to the college 48 hours prior to the first class meeting.
- No refunds will be given after the start of class.
The college reserves the right to cancel any course for which there is insufficient enrollment, to combine classes, to limit registration in a course, to divide sections, to provide additional instruction for a course, and to change instructors if necessary. In the event of course cancellations or schedule changes, every effort will be made to notify registered students so they can make necessary adjustments.
