Dean's List-Departmental Honors Program

Old Ingersol A select group of Dean's List students is eligible to apply to join the Honors Academy through the Dean's List-Departmental Honors Program.

Dean's List students are accepted into the academy at the beginning of their junior year and participate in honors courses, workshops on applying to graduate or professional school, and interdisciplinary seminars. They receive priority registration and individualized academic and career counseling and enjoy access to all academy facilities, including a lounge, study room, and networked computer stations.

Entrance requirements

The Dean's List-Departmental Honors Program accepts students from all disciplines. To apply, students must be beginning their junior year (having completed at least 61 but not more than 90 credits) and must be candidates for honors in their major department with an approved plan for honors-level study from the department chairperson or honors coordinator, or they must be enrolled in the Chase Smart Start Internship Program, the Howard Hughes Research Fellowship, or the CUNY Pipeline Program. The application must be accompanied by a personal statement, a writing sample, and two letters of recommendation from faculty members.

To continue in the program, students must maintain a 3.50 grade point average and complete one Honors Academy course, which will most often be an honors section of a Core Studies course or one of the academyÕs interdisciplinary seminars.

The Dean's List-Departmental Honors Program welcomes applications from students of diverse cultural, ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds.
