Learning Center
The Brooklyn College Learning Center (LC) provides peer tutoring in accordance with national best practices that empower students to cultivate the skills and behaviors of confident, independent, and lifelong learners. With support from the Office of Institutional Research and Data Analysis and ongoing oversight from the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the LC designs relevant interventions for need areas to further Brooklyn College's efforts to stimulate student-driven learning as well as increase retention rates and on-time graduation.
Tutoring Schedule
In light of recent circumstances and Brooklyn College's continuation of distance learning, the Learning Center will be continuing online tutoring for fall 2020 via the Zoom platform.
For anyone who might be unfamiliar, Zoom is a cloud-based online platform for video and audio conferencing that incorporates chat features, as well as file-sharing capabilities, to allow individuals and groups to replicate in-person communication in a virtual environment. At this time, we invite all students interested in receiving online tutoring to familiarize themselves with the Zoom platform by visiting Zoom's support page.
Writing Tutors
- To work with a writing tutor, you must read and follow these Online Writing Tutoring Student Instructions (pdf) on how to access this service.
- All requests to work with a writing tutor must be sent via e-mail and contain the information outlined in the Online Writing Tutoring Student Instructions. You must follow these directions each time you wish to make an appointment. Any requests for writing appointments that do not follow these guidelines will receive a reply asking for the aforementioned information, which will result in unnecessary delays and will curtail our ability to accommodate you in a timely manner. There are no exceptions to this requirement regardless of how many times you have worked with our tutors before
Subject Tutors
- To work with a subject tutor, read these Online Subject Tutoring Student Instructions (pdf) on how to access this service.
- The schedule and all relevant information for each tutoring session can be found on the Online Zoom Tutoring Schedule (pdf).
In order to take full advantage of Zoom's features and our online tutoring sessions, it is recommended that you work from a desktop or laptop computer that has audio/visual capabilities. While the webcam features associated with Zoom are not necessary for the tutoring sessions, tutors will be making use of screen-sharing, file sharing, and virtual whiteboards to enhance the quality of their sessions.
