Dan Shtob is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Urban Sustainability. His research centers on the interaction of environmental change and justice, particularly with respect to disasters and urban transformation. A member of the New York State bar and former real estate finance attorney, he employs interdisciplinary approaches that combine environmental sociology and political economy with the analysis of legal and financial structures. His current research employs a sociospatial lens to rethink disaster response and resilience in light of real estate and institutional opportunism. As an instructor, he designs courses to emphasize the relevance of socio-environmental interactions to students from diverse backgrounds, as well as to encourage involvement and activism around issues of justice.
