Violinist Adam Waddell won the 2011 Conservatory Concerto Competition, held on Friday, Feb. 18, with his performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto in D Minor. He will perform the concerto in its entirety with the Conservatory Orchestra, under the direction of George Rothman, at the orchestra’s Thursday, March 31 concert at 7 p.m. in Whitman Hall.

Associate Professor Rothman issued the following statement summing up the competition:

“Dear Conservatory Community,

“I am pleased to report we had robust concerto competitions this past Friday. Because of the high quality of this year’s entrants, the judges elected to have a first-prize winner and an honorable mention.

“First Prize was awarded to Adam Waddell for his winning performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto. He will perform the entire concerto with the Conservatory Orchestra on Thursday, March 31. Receiving Honorable Mention was Fung Yuen (Brian) Lam for his performance of the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2.
