Conservatory composer Alex Eisenhauer had been preparing to have several of his own works performed on a concert program at Tokyo’s Daito Bunka University when it occurred to him that he might be able to involve some of his colleagues in the Composer’s Collective, which he presently coordinates. He writes that he thought it would be nice “to give some of our students a good opportunity to have their work performed.” Here are the details:

  • Where: Daito Bunka University, Tokyo
  • When: Saturday, April 11, 2015

Composers / Pieces:

  • Alex Eisenhauer — Dear Heart, Out to Sea and How I Got Here, The Ballerina and Trying to Remain Optimistic
  • Yuriy Lehki — Rush
  • Jessica DiMari — The Daydreamer’s Waltz
  • Devin Cholodenko — Piano Trio in C Minor
  • Mavis Pan — Paths Crossed

There will be an event during an International Linguistics Conference held at the university on the topic of geolinguistics.

“A Pierrot group (flute, clarinet, violin, violoncello, piano) has been assembled for us by Steve Morgan, a conductor with the British Embassy in Japan. I do not yet know their names, but they are from local orchestras. And the conference was actually assembled as a way to attract an audience to the concert. We will have recordings of the performance.”

The Brooklyn College community is very excited and pleased that Alex and his fellow composers are being afforded this wonderful opportunity and carrying the conservatory’s fine talent abroad.

Update

Upon his return, Alex reported that the concert was a tremendous success and he will be hosting a screening of the concert video soon in 206G Roosevelt Hall Extension. We will advertise the screening just as soon as the date is set, pending receipt of the video file from the concert’s promoters. Alex has also told me that a similar concert is in the works in Cuba come fall. Stay tuned!
