Brooklyn College’s NAfME chapter has been honored with a first-place award for their Music Program category entry. Dr. Bruce MacIntyre alerted the administration to this delightful news:

“NAfME is the National Association for Music Education, this country’s foremost organization of professional music educators. Over the past two and a half years, under the expert, dedicated leadership of the conservatory’s music education coordinator, Professor Susan Davis, our music education program revived its local collegiate chapter of NAfME — with great success. As Susan has proudly announced, the Brooklyn College chapter, led by undergraduate Claudine Avalos, just won a Chapter of Excellence Award for their original music programs here. We join Susan in commending Claudine and all the students of the local NAfME chapter for their wonderful work, now being justly honored. Bravo to them all!

“I look forward to seeing the feature on them in the June issue of Music Educators Journal.”

Of the prize, Claudine Avalos writes:

“The NAfME Collegiate Chapter of Excellence Recognition was developed to encourage chapters to plan and execute successful chapter music programs, professional development projects, recruitment techniques and service projects within the last year. Chapters are judged on member participation, commitment, creativity, impact, organization, uniqueness and visibility.

“Our chapter submitted information for the Music Program category, which recognizes a successful music performance organized and/or presented by the chapter. Our chapter’s performance was a recital that took place at Scholes Street Studio in Williamsburg last spring and included performances from many of our members followed by a small reception.”

We heartily congratulate Professor Davis and all the students on this wonderful accomplishment.
