Office of Facilities, Planning and Operations
The mission of the Office of Facilities, Planning, and Operations is to ensure that the buildings and grounds of Brooklyn College continue to be as efficient and beautiful as when the college campus was constructed in 1930.
Composed of 15 buildings spread over 35 acres, the campus is one of the largest in the City University of New York. The office and its highly skilled staff renovate and refurbish classrooms, laboratories, and offices. They safeguard the original architectural splendor of the Brooklyn College Library while, at the same time, installing the latest technology and academic research services. The office's grounds crew cultivates the landscaped grounds and attends to the health of the campus' many plantings and garden features.
Spring 2018 Executive Summary: 90-Day Challenge
At the start of the spring 2018 semester, the college undertook a 90-day initiative to restore and repair as much infrastructure as possible in a short period of time, with a primary emphasis on bathrooms. This initiative, overseen by a newly created Facilities Success Team, assessed 1,634 fixtures and general conditions in 236 restrooms. The team documented 529 issues with fixtures and 228 issues with general conditions. By the end of the 90-Day Challenge, all bathroom fixtures had been fixed and all general issues resolved. The Facilities Success Team Executive Summary (pdf) outlines the steps taken to reach a 100 percent success rate.
