In 2007, Matthew Cameron (candidate, B.A., piano) had his transcription of Franz Liszt’s Les Preludes (edition 3596) published by International Music. An experienced pianist with virtuoso technique, Cameron has recorded this and other Liszt symphonic poems on Music of Liszt available through CD Baby.

The conservatory’s Harmonnia String Quartet, composed of Gabrielle DeSena (candidate, B.A., violin), Larry Robinson (candidate, B.A., composition) and Louis DiMeglio (candidate, B.A., cello), along with a student from Mannes, won the Joyce Dukta Arts Foundation Chamber Music and Instrumental Competition in Manhattan. Last December, Keith S. Garabedian (candidate, M.Mus., musicology) won the first Brooklyn College Library Art Collection contest award. The award was given to commemorate the new online collection of the library’s art. Garabedian was awarded the prize from a pool of 90 applicants for his musical response to Echoing Factors, inspired by Chakaia Booker’s work of the same name. Listen to his response.

Ryan Resky (candidate, M.Mus., trumpet) and his wife, Heidi Segelke Resky, (candidate, M.A., music teacher) recently gave birth to a baby boy, Zach. Congratulations, Ryan and Heidi!

The conservatory’s annual Concerto Competition was held on Feb. 2, 2007, with 10 students competing for the grand prize, a concerto performance with the Conservatory Orchestra. The jury decided to select two first prize winners: pianist Angelo Rondello (candidate, B.A., piano), Saens 2nd Piano Concerto in G minor, op. 22, and flutist Chia-En Lee (M.Mus., flute, 2008), who played Mozart’s Flute Concerto in D, K 314. The winners appeared in the orchestra’s spring concerts.

Sarah Corman (candidate, M.Mus., education) recently released her debut CD, Happy Little Tune, this March. Corman presents four original composition along with brilliant arrangements of songs by Ellington, Lennon/McCartney, Joni Mitchell and more. Happy LIttle Tune can be purchased at CD Baby and iTunes.
