Magner Career Center: The First Step Toward a Rewarding Career

For more than a decade, the Magner Career Center has had a record of unparalleled success in providing diligent and driven students with an edge in the market and preparing them to meet the real-world challenges facing graduates entering the workplace.

The center has relationships with more than 2,500 employers that actively recruit on campus, offering employment and internship opportunities. Nearly 50 percent of those internships are paid; others are supplemented with competitive stipends. Over $1.7 million in stipend funds have been awarded to more than 400 students in the past 10 years thanks to our generous sponsors.

Internships provide students opportunities to work with established professionals in any given field to display their skills and talents to prospective employers. Increasingly, employers utilize internships as a kind of pre-screening to hire graduates for employment with their companies. Internships give students a leading edge as they become uniquely qualified candidates, having gained company-specific insights during their internships.

"I had the opportunity to work with a group of about 25 auditors on one of KPMG’s largest clients," says Craig Henry ’11, ’14 M.S., who obtained his bachelor's degree in finance and business management and accounting, and master’s degree from the college's program in economics. "I was assigned to a specific area in auditing, and it was an amazing opportunity to experience firsthand what it would be like to work as first-year associate for the company."

Henry recently accepted an offer from KPMG and will begin working there in 2015.

Crucial to the availability and success of the center’s internships is alumni engagement. The center has an expansive network of over 1,100 alumni who coach and mentor students and nurture corporate relationships with the college. It is through dedicated alumni that the center has been able to connect students with amazing internship opportunities at well-known and established companies like Ernst & Young and Estée Lauder, and arrange corporate visits to renowned brands like DKNY and Google.
