Zhongqi (Joshua) Cheng is a professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and a faculty member for the Earth and Environmental Sciences Ph.D. Program at the CUNY Graduate Center and the Macaulay Honors College. He is an associate editor for the Journal of Environmental Quality. Dr. Cheng is co-founder of the NYC Urban Soils Institute, member of the Healthy Soils Heathy Communities Project, CALs in NYC, the Legacy Lead Coalition, research committee for WRF Biosolids Research, and Board of Trustees for the Mid Atlantic Biosolids Association. He has served on the Scientific Committees on the 9th and 10th International SUITMA Conferences and chaired the research committee for NRCS Soil Sciences NE Division.

Areas of Expertise:
Environmental and analytical geochemistry, urban soils and urban sustainability. Using ecological and sustainable approaches to address environmental problems. Currently, Dr. Cheng is mainly working on: urban soil contamination and its implication on urban agriculture and public health, green infrastructure for stormwater control, and beneficial reuse of urban solid wastes.
