Jennifer L. Ball, Ph.D., Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, teaches Byzantine, Medieval, and Islamic art. Her most recent book is Byzantine Dress: Representations of Secular Dress in Eighth- to Twelfth-century Painting(Palgrave 2005). She was a contributor to Byzantium: Faith and Power, is a frequent lecturer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and has published on liturgical textiles and Byzantine-Islamic visual culture. Her current project is "Habit Formation: The History and Meaning of Monastic Dress."

Areas of Expertise:
Byzantine, Western Medieval, and Early Islamic Art; Textiles, Fashion Theory; and the study of Portraiture are particular areas of interest of mine.
