Alex Vitale

I was born in Houston, TX, and went to Hampshire College from 1984 to 1989. From 1990 to 2003 I was on the staff of the San Francisco Coalition on Homelessness, where I headed up their work on developing and preserving health care and social services programs and defended the civil rights of people living on the streets and in shelters. In 1993 I came to New York to study at the CUNY Gradute Center, where I received my Ph.D. in 2001. I live in Brooklyn and am active in a number of community organizations. I am also an elected officer in the faculty union, the Professional Staff Congress-CUNY. Education: Ph.D., City University Graduate Center - 2001 (Sociology) B.A., Hampshire College - 1989 (Urban Studies and Cultural Anthropology) Areas of Expertise: I teach courses in Criminology, Sociology of Law, Social Movements, and Political Sociology.
