Professor Alonso specializes in late 19th-century intellectual history and modernism in literature. His most recent publication is an article on Spanish Chronicles of the Great War, "Ricardo Leon, a la sombra de las aguilas." His current research deals with regionalism, nationalism and literature in Spanish novels. He is also working on a project on the construction of Spanish literary institutions during the Modernist period.
