Jacqueline D. Shannon is associate professor of early childhood education. She received her master' degree in early childhood special education at Northern Illinois University and her PhD in developmental psychology at New York University. She is a member of the National Early Head Start Research Consortium. Prior to joining Brooklyn College she was a research scientist at NYU and postdoctoral research fellow with NICHD. She also directed a home-based child development program in East Harlem serving families with children birth to three years. Her research interests include parenting (with a special focus on fathers) and young children's cognitive and social-emotional development within families living in poverty using mixed methods. Recent publications have appeared in Child Development (2004, 2007), Infancy (2005), Parenting: Science and Practice (2002, 2006, 2009), Applied Developmental Science (2007) and Journal of Family Psychology (2008).
