Jean Grassman is interested in the use and application of biological monitoring to detect chemical exposure and the physiological impact of contaminants coming from the food supply, the environment and the workplace. Her current research examines the impact of persistent organic pollutants and plasticizers upon cellular signaling and protein function. In collaboration with toxicologists and epidemiologists, she has conducted studies focusing on the impact of benzene, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, dioxin-like compounds, and polybrominated biphenyl ethers at UC Berkeley, Columbia University, and NIEHS.
