Jane Palmquist has taught applied music (violin, viola, chamber music and orchestra); music education and music therapy courses (elementary and secondary music methods, research methods, keyboard, student teaching and string methods); and courses in music in general studies (world music, music appreciation and Core music), in addition to supervising graduate theses, projects and dissertations. She founded and directed the Brooklyn College String Project, which provided music instruction to hundreds of Brooklyn students as well as paid teaching experience to dozens of Brooklyn College students and major funding for the Conservatory of Music. Palmquist wrote the curricula and courses for the college's three music education degrees and is the founding coordinator of Music Education. She taught music education courses until becoming a member of the Core faculty in 2007. Her innovative teaching methods are noted by students and colleagues.
