James Davis teaches in the American Studies Program and the English Department, where he is also the deputy chairman for graduate studies. In 2007, he published Commerce in Color: Race, Consumer Culture, and American Literature, 1893-1933 (University of Michigan Press). His biography of Eric Walrond, a Caribbean-born writer and journalist who rose to prominence during the Harlem Renaissance, is forthcoming from Columbia University Press.
