María R. Scharrón-del Río, Ph.D. is Associate Dean of the School of Education & Professor of the School Counseling Graduate Program. A predoctoral Ford Foundation & APA's Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) fellow, they received their Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico. After their clinical internship at the Harvard Medical School, they worked as an assistant child psychologist at the Washington Heights Family Health Center, a primary-care clinic that serves a predominantly Latinx immigrant community in NYC. They are an active leader in GLARE (GLBTQ Advocacy in Research & Education). They are committed to the development of multicultural competencies in counselors, psychologists, & educators using experiential & affective educational approaches. Their scholarship & advocacy focus on ethnic & cultural minority psychology & education, multicultural competencies, intersectionality, LGBTQ issues, gender variance, spirituality, resiliency, & well-being.

SOE Partnership With East New York Family Academy. I was part of a group of faculty from the School of Education who formed a partnership with ENY Family Academy High School. My role in the partnership includes providing professional development and consultation to teachers and school counselors. 2010-12. 2012
Supporting the Haitian Community: Crisis Intervention Workshop. In response to the Haiti earthquake disaster, and in collaboration with Brooklyn College's Haitian Bilingual/ESL Technical Assistance Center (HABETAC) and the New York City Department of Education's Office of School and Youth Development, I organized a workshop to support our Brooklyn College school counseling, school psychology, and education students to be better resources within the schools in light of this tragedy. Members form the New York City Department of Education community and Brooklyn College alumni were also invited. More than 70 participants attended. 2010
Working With Children in Crisis: Responding to the Haitian Earthquake Disaster. A second installment to our response to the Haitian earthquake crisis workshop, the School Counseling and School Psychology Programs at Brooklyn College partnered to provide students, alumni and New York City Department of Education's personnel with a more clinically oriented workshop. This event was developed based on the feedback collected from the previous event. 2010
