In the course of his career, Girelli-Carasi has always tried to achieve a balance between teaching, scholarship and administrative duties. At times, he has done all three at once; at other times, he has devoted his (almost) entire attention to one of the three fields of endeavor. He enjoys teaching because of the contact with young people and the chance it gives him to explore and test new approaches. He finds scholarship exhilarating, and he also likes administration because it allows him to influence areas in a variety of dimensions within academia.
