Shuming Lu did his postgraduate work (1984-86) at East China Normal University, Shanghai. He taught at Yangzhou University for six years before pursuing his doctoral studies. Lu has been working as professor of intercultural communication (since 1997) and as director of the City University of New York-Brooklyn College China programs (since 2002).

Areas of Expertise:
Lu's research interests are ethnography of communication, communication theory, intercultural communication, international communication, and Chinese culture and communication, with a particular focus on interactions between Chinese and Americans.
