Areas of Expertise:
Smithsimon studies how cities and public spaces foster inclusion or exclusion, segregation or integration. He has written about New Yorkers rebuilt their community after September 11, and how developers and architects shape public plazas. He recently completed a book on African American middle-class suburbs.He is working on a book on immigration and politics in the suburbs of Paris. His current research examines East Coast cities threatened by climate change.
