Dena Shottenkirk is an analytic philosopher specializing in aesthetics and epistemology. Her doctoral dissertation, "Nominalism and Its Aftermath: The Philosophy of Nelson Goodman," was published by Springer in 2009. Shottenkirk is also a practicing artist who has a background in art criticism with former staff positions (@Artforum and Art in America). In 2009, Cambridge Scholars Press published her book "Cover Up the Dirty Parts!" which critiques the censorship/cultural battles of the 1980s along with an analysis of the epistemological and social roles of art. In 2019 she co-edited the volume "Perception, Cognition, And Aesthetics" (Routledge). Recent papers have appeared in Ernkenntnis, Contemporary Aesthetics, and Polish Journal of Aesthetics. She is currently under contract with Springer for a volume entitled "Art as Cognition".
