Areas of Expertise:
Aesthetics is the study of the philosophy of art. Within that are many subcategories, but Dena Shottenkirk's interests lie in how art functions as a form of knowledge and how it conveys meaning. Epistemology is the philosophical study of how we know the world; it concerns itself with questions of how knowledge is processed by us and in what form that is knowledge encapsulated.

Creative Work
POPc (Philosophers' Ontological Party club) Conversations at Happy Fun Hideaway and Flowers For All Ocassions (both part of Secret Robot). Along with Brooklyn College students, x-students, and adjunct faculty, Prof. Shottenkirk organized a weekly series (from November 2015 - April 2016) of one-on-one conversations on the topic of Free Speech. The conversation partner then posted some of their thoughts on the web forum set up for this purpose (http://denashottenkirk.com/the-system-project/system-project-forum/). This is part of a larger project that re-constructs the process of social consensus, using Shottenkirk's book/artworks as the input, and the community's thoughts as the output. 2015
