The study of language as it is used by various social groups. Language and gender, language and culture, Creole languages, black English, linguistic change. This course is the same as Anthropology and Archaeology 3390  and English 3524 [24.8].
Prerequisite: English 1010  and either Anthropology 2300 [2.3] or Linguistics 2001 ; or permission of the chairperson.
