Our first recipient of the Fall 2017 Academic Incentive!
Hi, CUNY EDGE students!
We are glad to see signs of spring emerging, even though it is still a little cold. I would imagine that most of you are preparing for finals in May and looking forward to the summer.
We are busy planning the summer enrichment academy, which will begin in June. We hope that it will allow you to have fun during the summer while working on your goals for your careers. If you haven't already done so, please make an appointment with Roberte, program adviser for CUNY EDGE, or me to discuss your options for summer classes, work-study, internship, or volunteer placements. There is still time to apply for the Zicklin Fellowship, and you should also talk to your financial aid adviser to see if any funds are available through Pell Awards. As you should be aware, you are required to remain actively engaged in work or other activities to remain in the program and to comply with HRA requirements.
Our workshops for the spring semester have begun. Please remember that you need to be actively engaged with CUNY EDGE to remain in the program or to be eligible for any incentives. If you sign up for a workshop, be sure to show up. If something critical comes up, you need to let us know at least 24 hours in advance so we can offer your place to another student and ensure that we don't waste funds. That said, we have had two great workshops. The first was on scholarships/fellowships by Stephen Gracia. See below for a more detailed description. The second was with Richard Vento, who led us through making the most effective use of the Learning Center and the tutors who work there.
Did you know that the Learning Center is open seven days a week and that you can book a one-on-one session with a writing tutor in advance? If you have papers to write, make an appointment to see a writing tutor with your draft outline this week to make sure you are on the right track.
Remember that we are here to support you and to help you succeed, so stop by the office to let us know how you are doing or make an appointment to meet with us if you need to work though any issues.
