Successful Prep: Student Highlights
Here at Successful Prep, we celebrate students who are mastering their ongoing academics and lives. The first student we would like to congratulate is Sophia Martinez. Sophia is a senior, working as a part-time office assistant at the CUNY EDGE. Her major is in communications, with a concentration in intercultural communication. She recently landed a summer internship with Columbia Records in its Events and Touring Department. Her plans after college are to continue her education in hopes of receiving a master's degree in marketing. Sophia has always been intrigued by the process of music and the business that goes behind it. She understands that school is not only an open door of opportunity, but also a place to have your voice be heard to build and maintain connections.
Another student who we would like to congratulate at Successful Prep is Deborah Alves. Deborah is a junior majoring in urban sustainability with a concentration in sociology. She recently got accepted into the Rosen Fellowship to do an independent study on cooperatives. She will be able to travel to Greece during the summer! During her study here, she has been intrigued by the idea of cooperatives. Last year she also traveled to Greece for a political science class while at BMCC, and she loved it. It opened her mind to see more of what CUNY had to offer. She went to an event hosted by the Rosen Fellowship and found out that she could do her own independent study. She had kept in contact with the people who she met on her previous trip to Greece, and they are involved in forming a cooperative of bee keepers. After graduation she hopes to open her own urban bee keeping farm in New York City.
