Excellent analysis comes from excellent understanding, which is provided by a conceptual framework that helps the students organize their thinking. In an age where large amounts of information about organizations are readily available to be processed, a conceptual framework guides the students in selecting and using this information intelligently and economically in order to gain constructive knowledge.
Students should be provided with a conceptual framework that helps them understand how businesses work, how they generate value and how the value they generate is captured in the financial statements; furthermore, this framework must help the students analyze what they see in the financial statements so that they can make more informed decisions.

NEALSB is a division of the ALSB. Founded in 1924, the Academy of Legal Studies in Business (International) is an association of teachers and scholars in the fields of business law, legal environment, and law-related courses outside of professional law schools. Our nearly 1,000 members teach primarily in schools of business in colleges and universities, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Members come from all fifty states, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, England, and a number of other nations. The Academy provides a forum for the exchange of ideas, and encourages support and cooperation among those who teach and conduct research in the field of legal studies. In addition, the ALSB works to foster understanding and cooperation between college and university administrators and our constituency. Member, Montclair State University Five-Year Evaluation Review Committee
At the request of the Accounting Chair, I visited Montclair State University on Friday, April 29, 2016 to evaluate the Feliciano School of Business and specifically its Accounting/Tax/Law Department. I served on this committee along with Patricia Z. Galletta of the College of Staten Island/CUNY and Jim Fornaro of the SUNY College at Old Westbury. We drafted a report outlining our recommendations.
Accounting/Tax/Law Department:
- Assessed whether the goals and objectives of the program are aligned with the best current thinking in the field;
- Evaluated whether the department/program has a vision for the future and concrete tactics to achieve that vision;
- Reviewed evidence of learning outcomes, an assessment plan, and use of such assessment outcomes to guide curricular decisions and programmatic improvement. (Professional Leadership: Public Service) 2016
