Sean Haley believes that the strongest public health education is one that is rooted in an understanding of science, history and populations. Haley recognizes that learning is incremental, built slowly, and anchored with an experience-based educational process. He believes that part of his teaching role is to help students question more thoroughly and to think more critically. Wherever possible, he uses real data and current examples to make course work as applied as possible. His community and managerial experiences have contributed strongly to his research interests in the area of substance abuse treatment dissemination and implementation studies. Working within communities framed his understanding of and commitment to urban health and initiated his research interests related to the intersection of social context and health.
