Unearth the contributions African Americans have made to the development of the United States.
Africana Studies
Our multidisciplinary approach to Africana studies will prepare you for the world.
You feel a calling to study the black diaspora, travel to storied lands, and understand the dynamics of cultural phenomena like hip-hop music, the civil rights movement, and the first black president of the United States. You would be fascinated by a trip to a black comic book convention or a summer seminar in Haiti, Panama, or Brazil. The Department of Africana Studies offers a multidisciplinary curriculum devoted to in-depth study of blacks in Africa, the Caribbean, and the United States. One of our goals is to serve as a bridge between Brooklyn College and the diasporic community of New York through research and sponsored programs and as community representatives. Our graduates are well equipped for the 21st-century workplace or for graduate study at universities and professional schools.
