Akiko Fuse is associate professor in the Communication Arts, Sciences, and Disorders Department and a co-Director of the Advanced Certificate Program in Autism Spectrum Disorders. She is a licensed certified speech-language pathologist. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses on speech and language development and disorders as well as the issues on assessment and intervention. She also mentors undergraduate and graduate level research.

Areas of Expertise:
Her research interests are in first/second language acquisition and cognitive development. Her recent research focuses on 1) assessment and treatment of speech/language disorders among individuals with culturally-linguistically diverse backgrounds, 2) language/literacy development and academic achievement in bilinguals and individuals with diverse backgrounds, 3) autism spectrum disorders and emotion recognition, and 4) relationship between thought and language.
