Summer Internship—Brooklyn Navy Yard
Interns are matched by BNYDC with a Navy Yard–based business or BNYDC department. These will include manufacturing, design, media, and technology-based businesses. Host businesses and Brooklyn Navy Yard departments will provide each student with a meaningful work experience. Intern placements are made based on alignment between business needs and prospective interns' skills, background, and interests.
Specific intern roles include:
- Culinary / Hospality
- Media / Communications
- Engineering
- Computer Programming / Development
- Office / Administrative
- Various other fields
Interns are expected to demonstrate exceptional work ethic and professionalism at all times while being employed by BNYDC. Before the start of the program, all students must attend a BNYDC orientation session. At the end of the program, employers will submit an intern evaluation. Two sessions are available to accepted interns. Each accepted student is eligible to participate in one session.
- Session 1: Monday, June 4 to Friday, July 27, 2018
- Session 2: Monday, June 25 to Friday, August 17, 2018 (graduating high school seniors from public schools will have a late start on June 27, as their classes end the previous day)
In addition to their work at their internship sites, interns are invited to participate in additional career preparation and networking programming that will include one to two industry-based tours, networking events, and career panels. All interns commit to a 40-hour work week with a one-hour unpaid lunch break each day. This totals to 35 paid hours each week. All interns are compensated at $13/hour.
