Lesley Davenport is been professor at Brooklyn College since 1998. Previously, Davenport served as executive officer for the Biochemistry Ph.D. Program, CUNY Graduate Center (2002-08); visiting research scientist, NIH (1995-96); visiting research fellow, Paterson Institute for Cancer Research & Medical Oncology, United Kingdom (1988-90); visiting summer research fellow, University of Utrecht, the Netherlands (1988); associate/assistant professor, Brooklyn College (1985-97); and associate research scientist (1984-85) and postdoctoral research fellow (1981-83), The Johns Hopkins University.
Education:
Ph.D., University of Salford (United Kingdom) - 1981 (Biochemistry)
B.Sc. (honors), University of Salford (United Kingdom) - 1977 (Biochemistry)
Areas of Expertise:
Davenport's research in the laboratory focuses on studies of molecular interactions and fast conformational dynamics of large biomolecules. The lab uses state-of-the-art fluorescence spectroscopic methods. Funded through the Brooklyn College NIH-Score grant, they are currently using sensitive fluorescence methodologies to investigate the folding and stability of quadruplexed DNA found at the telomeric ends of chromosomes as an approach to designing better potential chemotherapeutics.
