Yana Kuchirko is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Brooklyn College, CUNY and is the director of the Culture and Child Development Lab (www.culturelabbc.com). After receiving her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from New York University, she completed a post-doc at the Institute of Human Development and Social Change at NYU. Dr.Kuchirko?s work examines the role of culture and context in child development.

Areas of Expertise:
Professor Kuchirko examines sociostructural approach to child development, with a focus on how children and youth are socialized at the intersections of culture, ethnicity/race, and gender, and how such socialization patterns are shaped by societal structures. Kuchirko's work is grounded in theories and scholarship across disciplines, with an emphasis on critical perspectives, macro-level ideologies and narratives that shape conceptions of children and childhood across the globe.
