Prior to his arrival at Brooklyn College, Hardin was assistant professor, Department of Psychology, UCLA (1995-2004); postdoctoral research fellow, Department of Psychology, Columbia University (1994-95); and instructor, Department of Psychology, California State University, Fullerton (1988).
Education:
Ph.D., Yale University - 1994 (Social-Personality Psychology)
M.Phil., Yale University - 1992 (Psychology)
M.S., Yale University - 1991 (Psychology)
B.S., Loma Linda University - 1986 (Psychology)
Areas of Expertise:
Hardin's research focuses on the interpersonal foundations of cognition, including the self-concept, social identification, prejudice and ideology. Most of his work is animated by shared reality theory (Hardin & Conley, 2001; Hardin & Higgins, 1996). From this perspective, individual cognition and interpersonal relationships are mutually constructed and regulated through the achievement of "shared reality," which is a kind of working intersubjectivity.
